Do you want to build and operate reliable, scalable systems powering financial index services? Are you passionate about hands-on engineering while leading delivery in a distributed team?
Our Index team is based in Zurich and India and develops core platforms that enable the creation, calculation, and distribution of financial indices. We work at the intersection of data, engineering, and financial markets, ensuring stable and high-quality services for internal and external stakeholders.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take a leading technical role within this distributed setup, working closely with engineers in India. While this is not a people management role, you will lead the team from a technical and delivery perspective, ensuring that commitments are met with high quality and on time. You will combine strong hands-on engineering with clear ownership, collaborating closely with product managers, domain experts, and SRE teams to build reliable and effective solutions.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java (Spring Boot) and Python for index calculation and data processing platforms
- Own the end-to-end delivery of features, ensuring they are delivered on time and meet quality expectations
- Lead the technical delivery of a distributed engineering team in India, aligning the team and ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes (without direct line management)
- Collaborate with SRE teams to ensure systems are reliable and production-ready, contributing to improvements where needed
- Drive architecture and engineering decisions to improve scalability, performance, and maintainability
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on software engineering experience with Java (Spring Boot) and Python in a production environment
- Experience leading delivery in a distributed setup, with a focus on accountability and outcomes
- Solid understanding of backend system design and distributed systems
- Experience using modern engineering tooling and AI-assisted development to improve productivity and code quality
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience in building and operating production systems
- Fluent English communication skills; German is a plus
