Senior Software Engineer (80-100%)

• Working from home up to 40% possible
• Do you want to design, build, and operate reliable, scalable systems powering financial index services? Are you passionate about hands-on engineering and solving complex technical challenges in a distributed environment?
• Our Index team is based in Zurich and India and develops core platforms that enable the creation, calculation, and distribution of financial indices. We work at the intersection of data, engineering, and financial markets, ensuring stable and high-quality services for internal and external stakeholders
• As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a senior individual contributor within this distributed setup, working closely with engineers in Zurich and India. You will combine deep hands-on engineering expertise with end-to-end technical ownership, shaping robust solutions from design through production. You will collaborate closely with product managers, domain experts, SRE teams, and other engineers to deliver reliable, maintainable, and effective systems
• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Java (Spring Boot) and Python for index calculation and data processing platforms
• Own the end-to-end delivery of features, ensuring they are delivered on time and meet quality expectations
• Take technical ownership of complex components and features, from solution design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production support
• Collaborate with SRE teams to ensure systems are reliable and production-ready, contributing to improvements where needed
• Drive architecture and engineering decisions to improve scalability, performance, and maintainability

What You Bring

• Deep hands-on software engineering expertise with Java (Spring Boot) and Python, including building, testing, deploying, and supporting production services
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make sound architecture and engineering decisions in production environments
• Strong knowledge of backend and distributed system design, including scalability, resilience, performance, observability, and maintainable integration patterns
• Experience using modern engineering tooling and AI-assisted development to improve productivity and code quality
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience in building and operating production systems
• Fluent English communication skills; German is a plus
