The opportunity
For our Business Unit High Voltage Products in Zurich-Oerlikon, we are looking for an R&D Engineer to strengthen our R&D Team for High Voltage Circuit Breakers development.
In this role, you will be contributing to design and product development related activities in ongoing R&D projects from concept to series implementation. Within this setting you will need to find innovative solutions that satisfy a complex combination of diverse requirements, originating from technology, marketing and production, by aligning the perspectives of the contributing experts and working together with engineers and internal stakeholders across the global organization.

How you’ll make an impact
Contribute to new product and core component development of High Voltage Circuit Breakers in close cooperation with engineers and technical experts
Be part of the global R&D team to share and further knowledge in targeted areas of expertise in High Voltage Circuit Breakers
Development and type testing of High Voltage Circuit Breakers in internal and external laboratories based on international standards
Post-process the testing results in close collaboration with the technical expert team
Plan, carry out and evaluate engineering simulations with commercial and in-house tools
Maximize the knowledge gain from testing and simulations for implementation in our designs
Document results of the R&D work with technical reports
Develop towards a contact point for technology and product management to provide key results of the R&D work as input for data-driven management decisions
Your background
Master’s degree in mechanical, high voltage engineering, or a closely related subject from a Polytechnical/Technical University
Experience in research and development of power equipment, ideally high voltage switchgear is an asset.
Knowledge in medium/high voltage, high power testing and electrical circuits is an asset
Experience with post-processing software: Diadem, Python and Excel or similar tools
Practical experience with numerical FEA simulation tools such as Abaqus or Ansys is an asset.
Programming skills are a plus
Excellent communication skills and proactive mentality to collaborate in an interdisciplinary, application-oriented research and development center
Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, and willingness to learn German
